At the beginning of the year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) announced its latest cohort of sites recognized under the Global Lighthouse Network. Haier Qingdao Water Purification Interconnected Factory was successfully selected, becoming the first Lighthouse Factory in the global water purification industry.
As a key technology partner for the factory’s core production processes, Foresight Tech delivered its Intelligent Membrane Factory Solution, centered on the Domestic RO Membrane Rolling Machine. By integrating equipment automation, AI-based inspection, and data-driven control, Foresight Tech supported the construction of a fully integrated, AI-enabled production line that has been validated in Lighthouse Factory operations.

Lighthouse Factories are selected based on proven results, scalability, and replicability in real production settings, and are widely regarded as one of the highest global benchmarks for intelligent manufacturing transformation.

01. AI-Based Membrane Defect Detection
Using high-resolution vision systems and AI algorithms, the solution performs real-time detection of defects such as spots, wrinkles, pinholes, and scratches under high-speed production conditions.
With detection accuracy down to 0.0144 mm², the system automatically determines acceptance or rejection, reducing false detections and preventing defective membranes from entering downstream processes.
02. Precision Adhesive Line Inspection and Control
The system continuously monitors adhesive application quality, accurately identifying issues such as adhesive breaks, insufficient or excessive application, and positional deviation.
Through real-time feedback and closed-loop control, process fluctuations are minimized, helping ensure stable yields for high-performance membrane elements.
03. Unified Intelligent Production and Data System
Production equipment, environmental parameters, and inspection data are collected through a unified architecture to form a fully traceable data chain.
Local intelligent agents analyze this data to support operational diagnostics, predictive maintenance, and process optimization, improving overall production stability and controllability.
According to Haier’s project summary, the application of AI-driven intelligent manufacturing practices led to a 40% reduction in product defect rates and a 72% decrease in quality-related costs at the Qingdao Water Purification Interconnected Factory.
